Stamp: Anti respect yourself by Riza-Izumi Stamp: Anti respect yourself by Riza-Izumi
No, I'm not against people respecting themselves. I am against people telling others that they need to respect themselves over stupid shit (e.g. humor that involves insulting yourself).

Just because someone isn't some stuck up, self-righteous, self conscious, up tight, twit  doesn't mean they have no self respect.  Why don't YOU show others respect -the thing you love to preach- and not tell them what is and isn't respecting themselves OR flat out treating them like a burning festering pile of dog shit just because they aren't behaving the way you want them too -err- I mean respecting themselves :unimpressed:

This might come as a surprise to you but, treating people like shit, doesn't make the respect themselves more. In fact, it has the opposite effect.

People that preach 'respect yourself' are like leaches, only instead of sucking blood, they suck the fun and life out of everything :\ Respect obsessed people, are the ones with the lest respect.

Well, the 'respect yourself' people think it means

1) dressing a certain way
2) not making fun of yourself
3) getting angry when a friends insults you jokingly (like how friends do all the time)
4) being paranoid about what other people think of you

Being able to laugh at yourself is a sign of self-confidence, which in turn suggests self-respect. If somebody is unable to laugh at themselves, it's a sign of insecurity, which suggests a lack of self-respect.

Don't fall for the "respect yourself" routine. It's just another way of saying "bow down to society's norms and my expectations." This phrase tends to be used by repressed people who envy your sense of freedom and self-respect, and want to make you as repressed as they are. Be an individual, not one of the flock!

I said something stupid in a chatroom once. Then I followed it by "Disregard that, I suck cocks." Then they're like "Eww, you need to respect yourself more."

I was fricken' joking. I meant to disregard the stupid statement. Plus, even if I did, so what? It's not disrespectful. It's pleasing somebody.

But I'm not even into that kind of stuff. I ramble too much.

idk it depends upon the definition of self respect. If your seriously saying your worthless then i will get on your case cause your not. If you think your better off dead again same thing. If your just cracking a few jokes about yourself well  I'll laugh with you. But telling woman its ok to think your worthless isn't helping the woman's rights movement. :| Its like telling woman its a terrible thing to live in fear when in reality fear is a good thing to have. Men and woman both need fear. Its natures way of saying there is danger out there (now being super paraniod is not ok :| too much fear is bad)

The definition I found; a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

No, wait, I meant the hashtag thing as a sarcastic remark. xD But thank you for the definition, I will hold on to that.
